Okay, so I always had this fascination with death. It kind of creeped me out when I was a kid. I would sometimes lay awake at night thinking what was after death and if it was the end all to life. And christianity really didn't help me out. I would think abut heaven and hell and which of my friends would go to which. It was awful, but I'm over it now. Sort of.
I have always wondered what it would be like to live forever. I thought it would give me more time to do things that normal people couldn't do, like be a doctor/lawyer/film director/photographer/president. I would know a lot of things about the world and its history and how it works. I would be one giant human library, if I choose to learn the rest of forever.
But what if you wanted to live for someone for ever. In other words, you didn't want to live because you wanted to learn the rest of your life, but instead spend an eternity with someone? That is what The Fountain is about.
A Spanish conquistador(Hugh Jackman) and the Queen of Spain (Racheal Weisz), fall in love and look for the tree of life so that they could drink its sap and live forever. However, just like Utopian societies, things go wrong in paradise. This by far is one of my favorite movies of all time. I highly recommend it to anyone. I know its a love story, if you know me personally these kind of movies make me want to throw up a little inside :), but this is by far the exception. It really dives into the notion of immortality and its flaws.

Awwww Juan, I knew there was some love inside!! ;) I like this, though..
Oh, I guess I should elaborate.. I like reading the little back story and how you bring your own life in as an intro to the movie... nicely done.
Juan, I left my power cord at school and so I can't read this post right now BUT:
I MUST HAVE YOUR FINAL VERSION OF YOUR FEATURE STORY TOMORROW--GIVE IT TO ME DURING THE HISTORY FINAL. Big grade hit will result if no feature is turned in--DO IT!
I really loved this entry. I agree that death is an extremely weighty subject. But we can't allow ourselves to be concerned too much about it because we never know when we're going to die. If we waste our time thinking about death then we won't be able to live full life. <3
Also, regarding the movie, I'm interested in seeing it; the plot seems to sound a lot like Tuck Everlasting (minus the fact that this script involves a queen of course). I think I'd like to see it just to observe how they portray their idea utopia. <3
Ditto on Robin's comment re: introducing the movie via your own story--it's very effective. Juan, you had some scary night time thoughts as a little dude :(
And I LOLd at your love stories=throwing up. Honest man.
This movie plot made me think of an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO...does anybody watch that? There's an episode where the main guy and his wife are celebrating their 10th anniversary by renewing their vows (Juan, are you throwing up?). She wants him to say, "I'll love you for all eternity" and he says, wait a minute, I vowed to love you till death...but in eternity I'm single again. Hilarious.
ive never seen this movie it always looked kinda weird...haha but death is surely a complex topic and especially at such a young age to try and understand
Yea I know I was all dark and messed up inside as a kid....thats why today im so normal... : p lol
But you have to see the movie, it is very interesting
